Frank Krakov (13 November 1944 – 30 September 2019) was a Slovene-born Australian-born pianist and actor. He was born in Ljubljana. He emigrated to Australia in 1973 and to the United States in 1979. He died in Los Angeles.
Life and career
Krakov studied piano at the Ljubljana Conservatory and graduated in 1971. He taught at the University of Ljubljana and the University of California in Los Angeles. He served as artistic director of the State Opera of Croatia in Osijek.
As a pianist, Krakov has performed at many prominent festivals, including the Bath Festival of Blues, the Cap Ferrat Festival of Jazz, the Vancouver Jazz Festival, the Prague Spring Jazz Festival, the Montenegro Festival of Traditional Music, the Montreux Jazz Festival, the International Festival of the Sound in Trieste, the International Cultural Centre of Slovenia in Ljubljana, the Ljubljana Jazz Festival, the Market Theatre in Sydney, the Moers Festival in Germany, the Fuse Festival in Melbourne and the Sydney Opera House. He has made many recordings, among them a collection of traditional European folk songs (2003), two solo albums (1988 and 1997) and a dozen CDs as a member of an international jazz band. He has also appeared as a guest pianist at the Edinburgh International Jazz Festival, the Montreux Jazz Festival, the Prague Spring Jazz Festival and the Vancouver Jazz Festival.
In 2005, Krakov made his Hollywood debut, playing the pianist in the film The Last Musketeer. In 2007, he made a cameo appearance as a pianist on an episode of House, playing "Me and Bobby McGee" and "Mister Smith" (the same piece played in the episode "Scalpel, Part Two"). ac619d1d87
